Video Games as a Storytelling Tool | A good story is the most important element for me when it comes to liking a video game, and I truly believe video games are one of the best storytelling tools out there. I mean, you literally get to interact with and influence the story as you play, how cool is that? I'd like to share my thoughts and experience around video game development and storytelling.

Taq "Q" Yoneda, Concept Art / Illustration / Manga

Taq/Q is originally from Kyoto, Japan — now proudly based in Winnipeg. He draws, designs, teaches, and genuinely enjoys all of it. His game development journey started during COVID and now it started feeling like it's going somewhere. Outside of work, he's into gaming, reading, cooking, and learning languages and philosophy. Still figuring things out, one colour, one line of code, and one late-night sketch at a time.

🎮 About the Event

Slow Jam 2026 is a month-long game jam designed to give you time to explore, experiment, and create without the crunch. Whether you're building your first game or collaborating with friends on something ambitious, this jam is all about the process, not just the deadline.

Each week, we'll feature guest speakers from the local industry sharing stories, tools, and techniques to inspire your journey. The jam wraps up with an in-person showcase where you'll get to play what others have made and share your own creations!

🚀What to expect

  • 🧠 Weekly Talks – Guest speakers every Wednesday at 6 PM CT

  • 💬 Discord Jam Space – Share progress, form teams, and get feedback

  • 🕹️ Make a Game (or Part of One) – Solo or with a group, on your own terms

  • 🎉 In-Person Showcase – Come play and celebrate the projects!

  • 🙌 Supportive Community – No pressure, just creativity and connection

No experience needed. Game devs, artists, writers, musicians, and curious newcomers are all welcome.
